My Clinical Interests & Qualifications

Orthopaedic Surgeon

Alasdair's clinical interests cover the breadth of general orthopaedic and trauma care, with the exception of spinal surgery and specialist care of childhood conditions. Having received a full general training on the North of Scotland Orthopaedic Training Programme, he augmented this with three specialist Fellowships in Melbourne, spending six months at the Alfred doing complex trauma, six months at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre doing doing joint replacement surgery, and six months at La Trobe University Medical Centre doing orthopaedic sports and reconstruction surgery. As a consultant in Aberdeen, Scotland, from 2003-2010 his interests centred on knee replacement and knee ligament reconstruction surgery, including sports injuries such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, as well as arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery of the knee and general trauma care.

Research Interests

Alasdair's research interests are in measuring and optimising orthopaedic outcomes, post traumatic psychopathology, and the role of placebo surgery in trials.
